Diphthong it is the meeting of a vowel and a semivowel (and vice versa) in the same syllable. The decreasing diphthong is the sequential meeting of a vowel with a semivowel, the increasing diphthong of the semivowel and the vowel.
Examples:
Triphthong it is the meeting of a vowel permeated by two semivowels in the same syllable.

Hiato is the meeting of two vowels in different syllables.
