Once upon a time there was a coachman who drove the carriage of an important minister of state. Every morning, before sunrise, the coachman would wake up and do his household chores. He helped his wife sweep the yard, cut wood for the fireplace, and fed the chickens. So he donned his smart uniform and cap and left the village to go to the minister's residence in the city.
As the minister's fancy carriage moved along the dusty village road, all the little children ran alongside the sumptuous, gleaming carriage!
Once, when the coachman passed his own house, his wife ran out excitedly and waved to her husband. However, he didn't even look in her direction. He held his head high, proudly. Upon returning home that night, after changing his clothes to wear peasant clothes again, his wife scolded him:
– Why did you behave with such arrogance? Surely, that uniform doesn't change the person you are!
The coachman lowered his head and realized his mistake.
