With a size that varies from 58 to 73 centimeters, the cormorant stands out for its ability in the water: it dives in search of fish and crustaceans. Tadpoles, toads, frogs and aquatic insects are also in the bird's diet.
Found throughout Brazil, the biguá lives in rivers, lakes, dams, dams, estuaries, mangroves and even in urban parks with ponds.
The species is also popularly known as biguá-una, grebe, water vulture and cormorant.
