Human actions have led to the extinction of many species. According to scientists, the extinction rate is already 100 to 1,000 times greater than that observed before humans appeared on Earth.
Although the losses are still lower than those seen in the five mass extinction events, they are alarming. And they make many researchers consider that if nothing is done, human beings can cause a new mass extinction in the future.
