It's time to celebrate the Cerrado and its riches!

The color of the caliandras, showers, ipes, Jatobás and pequi trees, mixed with the deep blue of the sky, will be the setting, from tomorrow until July 14, of the 18th Meeting of the Peoples of the Grande Sertão Veredas, held on the outskirts of the National Park of the same name, in Chapada Gaúcha, a municipality located in northern Minas Gerais. state.

More than eight thousand people are expected to participate in the four days of celebration, whose objective is to celebrate the Cerrado's socio-biodiversity, that is, its natural, cultural and social riches. Therefore, there will be an intense cultural program, bringing together performances by drummers, catireiros, corraleiros and typical dances such as lundu, catira, sussa, caninha and manzuá. Conversation circles, theatrical presentations and craft and typical food fairs complete the offer of activities.

The highlights of the festival are the revelry of Reis do Divino, where the faithful present their devotion to the Holy Spirit, and the arrival, on July 13, of the walkers of the VII edition of “Caminho do Sertão: from Sagarana to Grande Sertão Veredas”, in which around 100 people from various parts of the country participate. The Municipality of Chapada Gaúcha is part of the Urucuia Grande Sertão Tourist Circuit and the Sertão Veredas Peruaçu Mosaic. With a population of just over 13 thousand inhabitants and with a low HDI (0.69), the city's economy is focused on agribusiness (mainly soy and grass seeds) and family farming. It has great potential for the development of ecocultural tourism and the sustainable use of products from the cerrado.
