NAME:
A few years ago, my mother brought home a seed. It was as small as my little fingernail. My mother told me that when it grew it would be a big tree with many leaves and that every summer it would give us oranges. I was excited.
I wanted to see her grow, see her flowers and eat her oranges, but Mom warned me that I would have to be patient, that trees don't grow overnight.
Every day, when I came home from school, I would sit in the courtyard to see if the orange tree had grown, but I only saw the earth. No buds, no branches. Time passed, passed and I even forgot about that little seed, until one day I remembered that summer would come and I went to see the seed. It had turned into a small stalk, with a green leaf. It was the tree that began to grow and awaken.
My mother told me that the tree had long grown, but underground, through its roots. So, I asked why I didn't grow faster, if I didn't want to be big and strong, and my mother, who knows a lot of things, told me:
– This tree is like you, son. Enjoy every moment of your life. First it was a seed, then a leaf, and now a leaf stalk. In a few years it will be a beautiful tree, big, with flowers and oranges. She grows up calmly, like you, who are now a boy, but in a few years she will be big too.
Since that day, every afternoon I sit and watch the tree grow a little bit each day. I sit down to watch her grow, as I'm sure she sees me grow, too, with each new day.
