NAME:
Most Brazilian popular dances mix Portuguese and Spanish influences.
CARIMBÓ – Very popular in Pará, it is an African-influenced dance. Men and women sing and dance in a circle, almost always barefoot.
The name carimbó comes from a type of drum made from a cut and excavated tree trunk.
PAU-DE-FITA – Brought by the Portuguese and Spanish colonists, it is a typical dance of the June festivals. Participants stand around a pole decorated with colored ribbons that fall from the top to the ground. In the center, a person holds the pole, while the dancers spin around braiding the ribbons.
