Catherine Morland, a naive young woman and voracious reader, will spend some time away from her peaceful rural life. At seventeen, the girl begins her season in Bath – an important coastal area frequented by the elite of England – full of expectation. There, she is invited to stay at an abbey.
The ancient building may have everything Catherine always imagined: mystery, a dark past and the glimmer of love. Parody of gothic narratives, which were successful in the 18th century, “Northanger Abbey” was the first novel completed by Jane Austen – although it was only published posthumously, in 1818.
