The book Flora das Caatingas do Rio São Francisco – Natural history and conservation has just won the Jabuti prize in the Natural Science category. The result was announced yesterday (17th) in the morning.
The book presents the diversity of the only genuinely Brazilian biome, the Caatinga. The work organized by Professor José Alves de Siqueira, had the participation of 99 researchers and 39 institutions.
The result, recognized by the Jabuti, dispels the image of land devastated by drought mythologized by national literature. In the Caatinga, life flourishes and is diverse. In the book alone, 1,031 records of species of local plants are presented.
