The foods that a population consumes and the way they act during meals are part of their culture and provide us with important information about their way of life. See the case of Africans who came to Brazil. For many groups, eating was a necessary activity not only to keep the body alive but also to feed the spirit. There was, then, the habit of eating together with friends, sharing food. Therefore, it is common to see several Africans serving themselves food from a single bowl at the same time. Likewise, there were foods considered ideal for men, women or children. This is why men and women also used to eat in separate groups.
