NAME:
Read:
The japu has a yellow tail that stands out amidst its black plumage. He is the best-known representative of his family and draws attention with his large size, approximately 45 centimeters.
It lives in groups even when it is time to build nests, made in large trees, as a form of protection against predators.
In addition to walking with other Japus, it is often seen among flocks of rooks (cyanocorax sp). In Minas Gerais, it is called “fura-banana”. The origin of the popular name is simple: this bird has one of its main foods in this fruit. But it consumes other fruits, flower nectar and sometimes captures some insects in an acrobatic way.
The singing japu, on the other hand, produces a high-pitched sound, similar to a “go go go zjío go go go”. And when he finishes the stanza, he leans forward, shakes his wings and produces a loud whisper. A show!
