If there were a list of Brazilian birds that challenge nature observers and photographers to guarantee a snapshot, certainly the chibante (Laniisoma elegans) would be in it.
Exclusive to the Atlantic Forest, the species is considered very rare. In the biome, it occurs in highly conserved forest environments in Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Paraná, generally in more humid areas. The slopes of Serra do Mar, Serra da Bocaina and Serra dos Órgãos are some of the places recommended for adventurers, who dream of closely observing this small specimen of the Tityridae family, the same as shin guards, piccolos and anambes.
