The Great Kingfisher (megaceryle torquata) is the largest species of the kingfisher family in Brazil. It has a pointed beak used to catch fish in the water. Perched on a branch over the water or flying in the same place (sifting), the kingfisher observes and launches himself like an arrow at the fish, sometimes completely submerging. He even uses his wings as paddles to get back to the surface.
