The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) decided to extend, until early December, the deadline for collecting information for the 2022 Census. The initial forecast was to close the works until October 31 of this year.
The institute maintained, however, the forecast to release the census data until the end of December.
According to the Director of Research at the IBGE, Cimar Azeredo, only about half of Brazil's estimated population was registered from August 1st until now. Therefore, it was decided to extend the deadline for the work.
“The great difficulty encountered was recruiting census takers, so the IBGE is taking important decisions to increase the number of census takers. possibility of recruitment and thus conclude the operation of the 2022 Demographic Census”, said Azeredo, in a video released yesterday (4th) on the Census website. In the video, the Director of Research also asked the mayors of the country to help ensure the success of the census operations.
