Puppy was born this Monday morning at Ueno Zoo. Both mother and child are doing well.
This Monday (12), Tokyo's Ueno Zoo confirmed the birth of a panda bear (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). 11-year-old Shin Shin gave birth at 11:52 am.
The birth of the panda is being received with great joy by zoo staff and with much anticipation, because in 2012, when she was brought from China, Shin Shin gave birth to a puppy that died of pneumonia after six days.
So far, mother and calf are doing well. The puppy has not yet been weighed, but it is estimated that its weight is 150 grams.
The celebrations for the birth of the new panda in Japan are not exaggerated, since pandas are very slow breeding and growing animals. In addition, they are endangered species and each birth represents a breath of fresh air.
The Ueno Zoo has not yet decided when it will show the cub, but it is expected to be six months from now.
