Also known as the barroso parakeet, the caturrita measures 28 to 33 centimeters in length.
The bird's diet is diverse, consisting of fruits, vegetables, grasses, flowers and shoots.
During the reproductive period, the parakeet has a peculiar behavior: it is the only parrot species that builds its own nest. She chooses the highest eucalyptus branches and lays up to 11 eggs there.
The nest thus becomes a true home. It is used year-round, whether for breeding, sleeping, or sheltering from storms.
