In Brazil, meteorology began to take its first steps in 1781. In that year, the Portuguese mathematicians Francisco de Oliveira Barbosa and Bento Sanchez d’Orta were sent by the Faculty of Mathematics to demarcate the limits of the southern region of the country. For nine years on national soil, the two carried out meteorological, astronomical and magnetic observations, also based on observations of Jupiter's satellites. Only in 1808, with the arrival of the Portuguese royal family, was the first Brazilian meteorological observatory created.
