Do you believe in rain dancing? In 1998, the state of Roraima had almost 1/4 of its territory burned, due to a drought that had lasted for three months. After frustrated attempts to put out the fire, the Government decided to resort to popular belief. Two Kayapó Indians, Kucrit and Mantii, were taken from Mato Grosso to Boavista in order to perform the rain dance. Tickets and hotel were paid by Funai. The two shamans danced for 40 minutes on the banks of the Curupira river, asking the god Coroti for rain. To everyone's surprise, the rain came and put out most of the fires.
