The thermal inversion contributes to compose the favorable “scenario” for acid rain. This phenomenon happens when the air mass, for some reason, does not follow its natural path. Normally, hot air rises, cools down and sinks. When warm air is trapped above clouds, a temperature inversion takes place. Warm air carries particles of smoke and pollution, which are deposited in the clouds. This increases the likelihood of acid rain happening, in addition to causing several respiratory problems.
