The first domestic animal was the dog. Researchers believe that they became man's best friend around 30,000 years ago – initially attracted by the leftover food produced by human groups. Sheep and goats were domesticated nearly 20,000 years after dogs. Cats, on the other hand, only appeared after the emergence of agriculture, when grain storage attracted rodents and, consequently, cats, to live with humans.
