The long-eared owl is a relatively large owl, measuring 37 centimeters. In addition to having powerful eyesight, this species has a prominent facial disc. It plays an important role as a sound reflector, which increases the volume of sound, facilitating the location of prey.
The long-eared owl has very prominent “ears”. Hence, in the state of Pernambuco, it is called the cat-owl.
It has nocturnal habits, becoming active at sunset and, during the day, it is camouflaged in the trees.
