Another home in the past

The study of bat fossils reveals that several species lived, in the past, in different places than they inhabit today. The 30-million-year-old megachiropteran found in Italy, for example, belongs to a group of bats that are currently only seen in tropical areas in Africa, Asia and Australia. Bats that feed on blood, now found only in tropical Central America, a few thousand years ago, for example, lived in northern California, in the United States. That is, in North America.

After all, why would bats live in places where they are currently not found? Probably because the climate there, in the past, was not like today.
