According to police, the 10-year-old was tattooed inside a hotel room.
The tattoo artist, Austin Smith, obtained Crystal's permission, but he could still face charges of tattooing a minor and endangering a young person's well-being. In the US state of New York, the minimum age to get a tattoo is 18 years old, regardless of having a family authorization. As such, Austin, who was Crystal's neighbor, faces charges of illegally dealing with a minor.
What was tattooed on the child was her own name in capital letters. The mark was placed on the boy's forearm. According to Lloyd's City Police Chief James Janso, the tattoo is large enough that you need to wear a sleeveless shirt to cover it up.
The drawing was discovered by an employee of the school where the child is studying when the boy asked the nurse to apply vaseline over the fresh paint. The school denounced the mother for allowing her 10-year-old son to have a "huge tattoo" on his forearm. As such, Crystal was apprehended earlier this month. She was booked on the misdemeanor charge – a criminal offense considered minor – and released.
The child was placed in the custody of child protection services specializing in crime.
