Caruaru surprises as an important artistic center in the Northeast

Caruaru was not made for amateur travelers, much less for those used to tourism in easy assimilation of rushed day tours, such as those that take place in some coastal destinations northeastern.

Located in the middle of Pernambuco's wilderness, "in the bowels of the northeast" as a cordelista once described local, this city 130 km from Recife is hard to conquer the most hurried and is letting itself be revealed to the few. Its people are as captivating as the clay puppets of Vitalino, the master who placed the region on the international route of figurative art; their stories are as varied as the (pleasant) endless prose of historical characters such as Mestre Eudócio, considered a Living Heritage of Pernambuco; and its rhythm is as hallucinated as string poetry or the duel of the old repentistas at the most famous fair in Brazil.

Let it be very clear from the start: the center of this city of just over 300,000 inhabitants offers few tourist attractions outside of the Holy Week and the famous São João. However, a dip in its cultural manifestations makes the destination one of the most interesting and richest trips in the entire state. And let the uninformed know right away: options should not be lacking. […]
