At the supply centers (Ceasas), the average reductions were 21.23% for carrots and 17.09% for papaya. This drop in prices makes food more accessible and benefits consumers, who will be able to enjoy these healthy options at lower prices.
The survey of data referring to the month of May was carried out in a total of 11 supply centers in the following cities: Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Vitória, São Paulo, Goiânia, Rio Branco, Recife, Fortaleza, São José, Goiânia and Brasilia.
These supply centers are important points of reference for analyzing prices and movement in the horticultural market in different regions of the country.
In the main supply centers surveyed, carrot prices suffered a significant drop after a period of consecutive increases.
The reduction in carrot prices was observed in all the centrals analyzed, with variations that reached up to 29.68% in the central of Curitiba and 6.96% in Ceasa of Fortaleza.
In addition to carrots and papayas, potatoes also showed a significant drop in prices. The average price of this tuber was 8.37% below that registered in April.
The biggest reductions in potato prices were observed in the cities of Recife, with a drop of 27.73%, and Vitória, with a decrease of 20.81%.
The price of oranges fell due to the greater supply of the fruit, driven by the growth in the harvest of early oranges. On the other hand, apple and watermelon showed an increase in prices.
According to information provided by Conab, stricter control was adopted over the supply of apples, mainly the fuji variety. This measure had a direct impact on prices in the markets that were analysed.
As for watermelon, even with a lower demand, there was an increase in prices, attributed to colder weather conditions at the end of the month and the end of supply from production in Bahia and São Paulo.
