The menu is a textual genre with an informative/descriptive nature, its main objective is to inform and guide consumers about dishes and products offered at the establishment. The menus can vary according to the location and can be used in restaurants, bars, cafeterias, ice cream parlors, etc.
Usually the structure of a menu is organized so that the product is followed by its price. These products are usually separated by categories as shown in the model below:
The main features contained in a menu are:
- Company Name;
– categories: food, drinks, etc.
– type of dish (can come specifying the food - cooked, fried, etc.)
– the value of the dish and/or food.
1) Menus are generally divided into sections. Because?
2) Of the items presented above, which would you choose for a quick meal?
3) What foods are the most expensive on this menu?
4) Which foods are healthier than juices, pastas or appetizers?
5) In the menu of the “Restaurant do Povo” which food is your favorite? Because?
6) Design your weekly food menu. It should contain breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. Don't forget to illustrate it.
7) To get to know your school's menu better, make an interview with the lunch ladies. Suggested questions below:
a) Who organized the school's menu this year?
b) Explain why students do not participate in choosing school meals?
c) Is the lunch you used to study the same as today?
d) Why don't we have cracklings and fats in school lunches?
e) Which snack is more difficult to prepare?
f) Why is there no yogurt on the menu?
g) Why are sweets not served as a snack?
8) After the interview, create a menu that you would like to be served at school. Don't forget to illustrate it. Then show your menu to the lunch ladies and ask if it is healthy and would it be possible to serve it at school? After the guidelines, prepare a healthy menu with the help of your teacher and have a nice picnic. Enjoy!
