Colors have their luminance values. Some are happier and more vivid, these we classify as warm colors. They resemble the sun, fire, and convey excitement, heat, adventure. That's why they are derived from red.
Colors that are darker and sadder we classify as cool colors. They resemble the cold, the shade, the calm. These colors are derived from blue.
There are colors that are balanced like: yellow. The shades of purple can be classified as warm or cool, as they have both blue and red.
