Nísia Floresta is considered the first Brazilian to demonstrate for the emancipation of women.
Dionísia Gonçalves Pinto was born on October 12, 1810, in the city of Papari-RN. A woman of authentic thinking and behavior far beyond her time, she became known under the pseudonym Nísia Floresta Brasileira Augusta.
A poet and writer, Nísia published, at the age of 22, “Women's rights and men's injustice”, in which she deals with the reality of Brazilian women. The work is inspired by the book by Mary Wollstonecraft, known as one of the first feminist manifestos in the world.
