Thanks to advances in medicine over the years, we can deal with illnesses through super-effective treatments and medications. However, due to the imperfection of human beings, many patients are subject to suffering from clear errors that could be avoided.
In Belo Horizonte, a patient sued a hospital for moral damages after being the victim of the wrong application of a medication. According to what was reported by the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG), the patient was accommodated in the hospital to use a specific medicine to treat anemia.
The drug prescription consisted of a single daily dose, with the period being five alternate days. However, the employees responsible for administering the drug misinterpreted the prescription and on the third day applied five doses at once. As a result, the patient became intoxicated and had to be hospitalized for four days in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Furthermore, the doctors at the institution where the victim was being cared for treated the situation urgently, as the woman was close to losing her life. Finally, the court case was closed and it was determined that the victim will receive R$ 50,000.00 from the hospital responsible for the incident.
