NAME:
– My father got something nice for his birthday – the hippopotamus Horácio tells the giraffe Giro.
– Wow, what is it? – Spin asks.
– A measuring tape – Horacio answers. - Look.
Horacio shows Giro a shiny, flat metal box. She has a kind of tongue that sticks out from the tip.
– See? Just pull the tape – Horacio explains, pulling the metal tongue. – these marks show the length of things.
Giro and Horacio still don't know the numbers, but that doesn't matter to them.
Horacio keeps pulling the tape, which gets longer and longer. Giro really wants to try it!
– So, when it's over, just do this! – Horacio says dramatically. He presses a yellow button next to the measuring tape.
Zaaaapt! The tape slips back into the box. But there is still a large stretched piece left.
– Oh… I think I broke the tape! – Horácio moans.
“Let me have a look,” asks Giro. He presses the button and the rest of the tape rewinds again.
– What luck! – says Giro – Can I try it?
- Of course! – Horacio says.
Spin walks around the garden, stretching the tape to measure a chair.
– Thirty-twelve! – he exclaims, as if he knows the numbers.
Then he presses the button once more for the tape to curl.
– Wow. Glad it worked this time – he rejoices.
“It's better to put it back in place now,” says Horacio. – Dad will be home early.
Spin bursts out laughing.
