The IR is a federal tax calculated based on the individual income of each citizen. The intention is that each Brazilian contributes to the government according to his earnings, in this way, richer people contribute more and poorer people, less.
This strategy has been applied since 1922 and is responsible for most of the Federal Government's collection. If the taxpayer fails to declare the tax, he may receive a fine of up to 20% of the amount of tax due. Therefore, it is important not to fail to declare.
To declare your Income Tax in 2023, just download the Statement Generator Program.
Now that you know what Income Tax is and how to declare it, let's address the scam.
In this image, we see an example of how the email presents itself to victims. The coup consists of sending a link, accompanied by a message in the email that informs about an alleged divergence of information in the tribute declaration. By clicking on the link, the victim is tricked into downloading a supposed report that would contain more information about the problem.
This practice is known as “phishing“, word originated from “fishing”, which, translated into Portuguese, means “fishing”.
This is considered by experts to be one of the simplest virtual scams, but also one of the most dangerous. All phishing basically works the same way: criminals induce the victim to provide sensitive data or download programs that perform this collection.
With this data in hand, scammers sell the information on the black market or use it to forge or access bank accounts.
To avoid falling victim to this and other similar scams, always try to verify the reliability of the source that requested some information or sent you a link to access it. In this case, the Federal Revenue reinforces that it does not send any email to correct the IR declaration data.
