In her sweeping new novel, the author of Love Letters to the Dead introduces a mother and daughter who need to understand the past in order to move forward.
When she was seventeen, Marilyn lived an intense love, but ended up going her own way and raising a daughter on her own. Angie, on the other hand, is a mestizo and always wanted to know more about her father's family and his black ancestry, but all her mother told her was that he died in a car accident before she was born.
When Angie discovers clues that her father may be alive, she travels to Los Angeles in search of his whereabouts, accompanied by her ex-boyfriend, Sam. In her search, Angie will find out more about her mother, about what happened to her father and, most importantly, about herself.
