If you're going to answer that you blink to flirt, know that there are other reasons that justify the opening and closing of your eyes that we do naturally. With this simple reflex, we lubricate our eyes and protect them from foreign bodies in the air.
When we blink, we activate the tear gland, which is behind and beside each eye, responsible for producing the tear. It's the tear that works in concert with our winks. The oxygen it contains spreads out and protects our cornea – a kind of lens that light passes through so that we can see. In the tear there are also fats and mineral salts, which are protective substances for the eyes. It is also to spread them over the entire surface of the eye and remove dust particles or foreign bodies that the eyelids open and close.
We blink every five or seven seconds, the time required for the tear to fulfill all these functions and then it is eliminated through two small holes that are in the corners of the eyelids, near the nose. If we blink less than that, the cornea does not receive the oxygen necessary for its protection and its proper functioning. The eyes are left without lubrication, without shine and we may even have the sensation of blurred vision and pain.
Well, now that you know that blinking is healthy, you can use your charm and your pretty eyelids to do your best with your winks. But be careful: excessive blinking or squinting can mean poor eyesight, allergies, inflammation, or that there is a foreign body that needs to be removed. In all ________ cases, it is ideal to see an ophthalmologist.
