List of school supplies: what should or should not be required for back to school?

The arrival of the year comes with the need to carry out several shopping for school supplies that are under the responsibility of parents of children and adolescents. There are cases of huge lists and others with more precise lists. What may or may not be required by the school? Check out!

List of school supplies: abusive or mandatory?

In São Paulo, the school year is scheduled to start on February 3, 2023, with classes scheduled to start on the 14th of the same month. This, therefore, is the moment when parents are organizing themselves to acquire the necessary materials required by schools.

This is the current reality of many parents across Brazil: the purchase of school supplies.

With the moment, the doubt arises about what can and cannot be required in the list. The necessary items that can be on the list must be for individual student use. Items for personal use must be included in the list for the student to carry out activities at school.

The items from hygiene, cleaning and for collective use should not appear on the student's list, as indicated by Proteste, in defense of the consumer. According to Procon, defining the brands of the items and indicating the store to buy the products is something that should not be done either.

"Consumers should always be free to research and compare prices, buy the materials they choose, and in the store where they best suit their financial capacity", informed the agency.

Law no. 12,886, in article 7, informs what must be conceived:

“A contractual clause that obliges the contracting party to pay additionally or to supply any school material for collective use by students or the institution shall be void, necessary for the provision of contracted educational services, and the corresponding costs must always be considered in the calculation of the value of the annuities or semesters schoolchildren.”
