Henry Darby serves as principal at North Charleston High School and is a member of the city council. However, he goes beyond his obligatory dedication to ensuring students' education. The professional makes a point of giving up his night off to dedicate himself to working at Walmart until the school bell rings.
In 2021 Darby's attitudes were recognized and ended up becoming popular, making him even more dedicated to helping students.
Darby works at Walmart from 10 pm to 7 am, and while not every day, all the money he earns there is aimed at securing some help for his students, or, as he refers to himself, his “grandchildren”.
Darby gives himself completely to help his students
The attitude is really surprising and, according to the speech of a student, in the “TODAY” program, “He is ready to help anyone”. Another adds: "He is impacting the community in a very special way."
Darby's students really are people who need extra help, according to NBC, about 90% of students at the school where he is principal are below the poverty line. Darby even talks about meeting some students who ended up being forced to sleep under the bridge and has even visited the homes of students who didn't even have beds.
In addition to poverty, North Charleston High School students are predominantly black and the challenges for these young people are countless, preventing many of them from focusing on education.
Darby is dedicated to ensuring the education of these students
He says that his work has already ensured that the walmart even sign a check for $50,000 for the school, however, he explains that money alone is not enough, as educational support is just as important.
All this effort initiated by Darby ended up infecting other teachers who made themselves available to assist students online after hours.
