Well, the first two have been in geography textbooks for a long time, and every student who has passed elementary school should answer: they were astronomers and mathematicians.
Copernicus, a Pole, who was born in 1473, created the theory of Heliocentrism, which placed the Sun, and no longer the Earth, as the center of the Solar System.
For, much later, the Italian Galileo Galilei discovered the sunspots, the rings of Saturn and the stars of the Milky Way.
Born in 1564, Galileo Galilei not only embraced the theory of Heliocentrism, but his discoveries proved Copernicus' postulations. It is considered the father of modern astronomy.
Hey, but what about Dom Pedro II? What does it all have to do with?
Considered a prodigy for having spent his childhood training to govern, he finally assumed the throne when he was only 5 years old, Dom Pedro II was a scholar.
He sponsored knowledge, culture and science in general, and was passionate about astronomy.
And December 2nd, his birthday was chosen for us to celebrate the National Astronomy Day. He, incidentally, is the Brazilian patron of this science that takes care of the immensity of the universe.
