She started as a hobby to help friends, today Elisa Motta has published more than 90 open letters on her digital platform
“I've been writing since I was a child. My grandfather, Hildebrando Afonso de André, was a Portuguese teacher and inspired me to get started. Texts, letters to friends, family… Writing, for me, has always been the truest way to express myself”, explains Elisa de André Motta, 32 years old from São Paulo who writes letters as a hobby. Graduated in Advertising and Advertising and Business Administration, Elisa worked with words, but always with the intention of selling something. “I wanted something truer and less marketed, that wasn't quite what I wanted to do”, she says.
An entrepreneur, Elisa decided to launch her own digital project on the medium platform, where she launched her first texts, which, according to the author, were a great outlet for her feelings. One day, a good friend came to Elisa and told her that she was not well. “That's when I wrote her a letter, and she replied that it was exactly what she needed to hear. I realized that I wanted to write for others, and not just for me”, she says. Elisa posted the letter on Facebook and asked if anyone else would like to receive it. At the time, 30 people commented asking to receive letters as well. “I was writing, posting and marking those addressed, who shared the letter I received. When I saw it, there were people I had never seen before asking to receive a letter from me”, she recalls.
Inbox requests also popped up: some were embarrassed to ask for the letter publicly. “I realized how some were afraid of what might be written in the letter, at the same time that they wanted to receive it. This is a habit that hasn't died out, it's just changed a little with technology,” she says. Elisa felt challenged when writing to strangers, but found that there was no difficulty: the The author tells a little about herself, the moment she is going through, opens her vulnerability and does not save on the poetry. “I want the recipient to remember how important it is and how valuable it is. The letter is a caress”, she completes. The author has written over 90 open letters on her platform.
