An alert was issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Service for an asteroid that is in space orbit. According to the organization, there is a potential to collide with planet Earth in 2046, more precisely on February 14. The asteroid was named by NASA as “2023 DW”.

The information was published on NASA's official Twitter, analyzing the need for even greater data collection so that they can guarantee that the collision will actually happen. They are tracking the object and the information so far may be inconsistent.
The reported characteristics ensure that the asteroid travels through the orbit at 24.63 kilometers per second, has a diameter of 49.29 m and is 0.12 astronomical units away from Earth.
Experts indicate that the so-called astronomical unit is stipulated by the average distance between the Sun and the Earth.
The distance decreases at a pace of 150 million kilometers, the same as 499 light seconds. Following this same calculation, it was stipulated that the asteroid could take 271 days to go around the Sun and reach Earth on February 14, 2046, in 23 years.
The approach to Earth will be 0.5 astronomical units, with the possibility of collision.
We've been tracking a new asteroid named 2023 DW that has a very small chance of impacting Earth in 2046. Often when new objects are first discovered, it takes several weeks of data to reduce the uncertainties and adequately predict their orbits years into the future. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/SaLC0AUSdP

Also according to the announcement, the North American space organization states that the first contact with the asteroid does not guarantee great information.
The chances of collision with Earth, for now, are still minimal and need to be evaluated more times until certainty is proven.
"Several weeks of data are needed to reduce uncertainties and adequately predict their orbits years into the future," NASA concluded.
