Coatis spend most of their life (estimated at 15 years) on trees. For this, they form groups of 4 to 20 individuals, who are divided in the task of looking for food. To do this, they can walk two kilometers. When this animal is not in pairs (in the reproductive period) or part of a group, it usually lives alone. When there is a shortage of fruit, their favorite food, the number of animals in their diet increases, which can range from birds and insects, to worms, larvae and earthworms.
As they are diurnal animals, the coatis usually choose the top of the trees to rest at night. In fact, they sleep curled up, like a ball. They only come down at dawn.
Relatively small, their weight ranges from 3.5 to 6 kilos. Males are usually larger than females. Although he doesn't like water, he usually swims well. In the print, it has a dark brown back and a long, furry, mottled white and black tail. The face and muzzle are elongated.
The head is broad ending in a long, narrow muzzle. The coat has varied colors: orange, reddish to dark brown or greyish, overlapping with yellow. The claws are well developed and the canine teeth are large. "According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), this species requires less concern because it is common throughout its geographic distribution, where its habitat is relatively preserved", claims.
