Biogas is a form of renewable energy, produced from the decomposition of organic matter, such as manure and waste residues, such as fruit and vegetable peels. […]
Every night the animals are collected from the pasture and put to sleep in the corral. In the morning, the villagers wash the corral and the animal feces flow into the biodigester – a hole 2 meters deep, 6 meters wide and 8 meters long. There, the residues are isolated from oxygen and, mixed with water, ferment for 45 days. After this period, in addition to biogas, biofertilizer also appears, which the residents use in the plantation. In one month in operation, the Cascata biodigester produces 30,000 liters of fertilizer and 500 cubic meters of biogas – the equivalent of 15 cylinders of cooking gas.
