And I considered the glory of a peacock bearing the splendor of its colors; it is an imperial luxury. But I've been reading books, and I discovered that all those colors don't exist in the peacock feather. There are no pigments. There are tiny water bubbles in which the light breaks up, like a prism. The peacock is a rainbow of feathers.
I considered this to be the luxury of the great artist, to achieve the maximum of hues with the minimum of elements. From water and light he makes his splendor; its great mystery is simplicity.
Finally, I considered that this is how love is, oh! my beloved; of all that he arouses and shines and trembles and raves in me there are only my eyes receiving the light of your gaze. He covers me with glory and makes me magnificent.
