Ox, Cattle, Cattle

The poems in this book sing about the things of the countryside: scarecrow, cattleman, ox, calf, horse, flowers, bees, corral, sheep, pitanga, corn, forest and the feast of St. John. It's as if Ruth Rocha picked up a country guitar and started rhyming under the moonlight of the hinterland. It's beautiful. And it touches deep in our hearts. Because, as Carlos Moraes observes in the introductory text, “in some corner of our soul, we are all rural”.

In a country where traditions are forgotten and at a time when nature is at risk of being completely destroyed by man, the simple and neat verses of “Ox, boiada, boiadeiro” gain strength extraordinary. This force is called poetry.
