According to the CFM, in the last 10 years, more than 200 schools of higher education in medicine were opened. As a result, each year, around 28,000 physicians join the market.
However, even though we are receiving a high rate of professionals in the market, Brazil still faces a problem with the distribution of doctors around the country. This happens because, in general, the majority of recent graduates still prefer to be allocated in large capitals.
As a result, even though the proportion of professionals is 2.5 per thousand inhabitants, there are regions of the country where access to care and basic health services are in a precarious.
The reason for this gap is based on problems such as lack of structure, lack of teams multidisciplinary teams and basic inputs, thus creating an unsuitable and unattractive environment for new professionals in the field.
According to José Gallo, president of the CFM, “It is no use putting well-trained doctors in these 5,550 municipalities in the Brazil without having work infrastructure, beds, equipment, medicines, access to exams and team support multi-professional".
The Federal Council of Medicine also emphasizes that, in order to resolve the problems related to the distribution of professionals in the country, it is necessary that there be a greater investment by the States to receive trained doctors, thus enabling the improvement of the population's health care service Brazilian.
