In 1823, José Bonifácio de Andrade e Silva suggested the name Brasília for the new capital. A priest from Italy, Don Bosco, who had prophetic visions, dreamed, on August 30, 1883, that Brasília would be the new capital. The priest was considered a saint and is now one of the city's patrons.
In the first Constitution of the Brazilian Republic, in 1891, Bonifácio's idea was approved and, in 1894, it was An area of 14,400 square kilometers was demarcated, called Quadrilátero Cruls, where the construction of the new capital. On September 7, 1922, the foundation stone (to mark the location of the new city) was laid in Brasília, near the city of Planaltina, in the Central Plateau.
