According to the CNC, the percentage of indebted families in the country reached an incredible 66.3% in February 2023. Debts refer to defaults on credit cards, financing of goods, loans and the like. The high percentage represents an increase of 0.5% in relation to January of this year, when compared to the same period last year, the increase is 5.5%.
Based on data from the Consumer Indebtedness and Default Survey (Peic) conducted by CNC, it can be concluded that credit cards are the main form of debt. Credit card debts are present in 79.8% of debt cases in the country. Right behind, we have booklets representing 16.9% and car financing, with 9.9%.
The causes are diverse, but some have more prominence and influence, such as unemployment, economic crisis and impacts generated by the pandemic. In addition, the lack of financial education also appears as a major factor responsible for this increase. Without it, people tend to spend without control, as they have no planning, causing them to drown in ever-increasing debt.
The best way to fight debt is by resorting to financial education. With it, you can learn to deal with money consciously, as unnecessary expenses are discarded, as there is greater attention to essential expenses. In addition, there are other efficient options for dealing with debt. Some examples are: debt renegotiation, search for low interest credit and search for professionals specialized in personal finance.
