Basic tips on how to freeze food

Have the ideal bowl for each food

The first step is to separate the ideal containers.

  • Plastic containers are an option that resists the freezing process, as they do not let any odor escape and the lids must be hermetically closed;
  • Glass refractories can withstand varying temperatures, but they do not handle thermal shock well and can break. So, remove the food from the oven and let it cool before putting it in the freezer, okay?
  • Ice vats are ideal for freezing liquid foods, as well as vegetables and fruits, which will then be unmoulded and divided into portions for you to make juices and smoothies.
  • Airtight bags are great for storing foods like portioned steaks or even chopped fruit. Also, be sure to remove as much air as possible to prevent bacteria from multiplying.

Another important tip about containers is that it is not recommended to freeze small amounts of food in a very large bowl, precisely so that the air does not have much space.

Place identification tags

Label all bags and jars with contents and dates of preparation, as after a few weeks you will still be able to tell the difference between all the foods that are preserved and will also know which ones to prioritize, according to the time of preparation.

Do not freeze hot food

It is very important to wait for the food you have prepared to cool down before placing it in the freezer. Transfer it to a package, close it well and take it to the freezer after that.

Caution when freezing fresh foods

Raw food cannot be frozen more than once. Thus, it is important that they are cooked once they have been defrosted, or they could end up spoiling. What you can do is thaw raw foods, cook them and then freeze them again.

Good luck!
