The security bodies of hawaii released an alert for the population living in the regions close to the Mauna Loa volcano. In the advertisement, the biggest concern is that there are volcanic formations, known as “Cabelo de Pele”, in this, considered the largest active volcano in the world. What happens is that the volcano can release glass particles that can cut the skin of those who live nearby, in addition to releasing gases and lava.

This phenomenon arises when lava oozes through the volcano's ruptures and cools too quickly. The result is the formation of fine particles with a high length, similar to a strand of hair, hence the term: “Hair of Skin”. This name is also a tribute to the goddess Pele-honu-amea, Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes.
The ''Hair of Skin'' doesn't have a very long range, being a concern only for those close to the volcano. That's because these tiny particles are very sharp and can cut your skin or eyes. The size of these strands will vary, they can be a few inches long and millimeters wide. They are very light, being easily carried by the wind or animals.
Another concern of the Hawaiian authorities, in addition to the Pelos de Pele, is the emission of toxic gases, such as sulfur dioxide. According to security units, the closest areas concentrate the greatest amount of gases, which can cause headaches and burning eyes.
Officials are concerned about the phenomenon of lava jets
The volcano that was dormant for 38 years is also emitting lava jets that can reach 60 meters in height, as shown by satellite images. Although it sounds scary, expert geologists say there is no great risk for most of the population and nearby homes.
