“Nature lives experimenting and making mistakes. Give a hundred feet to the centipede and not one to the worms, why so much injustice? […] It dresses the beetles with too thick a skin and leaves the worms more naked than Quindó's bald one, that's a mistake.” […]

Dona Benta and Aunt Nastácia are rushed to Europe to solve the problem of wars. Meanwhile, mischievous doll Emília is alone in the Sítio do Picapau Amarelo and puts into practice a secret plan: to reform Nature, improving the world around her. In this beautiful story, first published in 1941, Monteiro Lobato gives free rein to the imagination while reflecting on the limits between fantasy and reality.
