Brazil is really booming in the world, and the Portuguese language is not far behind in popularity.
According to a column by journalist Anselmo Góis, in O Globo newspaper, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) offered its 300 employees two options – linguistic: the chance to learn the Russian language – because of the Winter Games in Sogi, which will be held in 2014 – and Portuguese – given the proximity of the 2016 Olympic Games based in Rio de January. The result: only 5 people out of 300 IOC employees chose to study Russian. On the other hand, the other 200 preferred to study the language spoken in Brazil.
Our language is doing very well, thank you.
