the haunted house

At night, a terrible storm, with lightning and thunder, fell on the house of the little witch Tremilda. The cat Mustache decided to meow at the door of the little witch's room. He was afraid of the rain and wanted a little milk. But Tremilda had forgotten the magic words for milk. She tried it twice, but by moving her wand to perform the magic…
-Oh no! – she said to the cat. – Now you are the color of a toothless pumpkin, my grandmother's favorite!

The little witch came down the long stairs in the middle of the night, a lantern in one hand and the toothless pumpkin-colored Mustache cat in the other. She went to the library and retrieved the Book of Feline Magic. It was a big, heavy, old, colorful book. The little witch Tremilda opened the book to page number twenty and tried the magic to get warm milk. Very determined, she waved her wand. But the milk that the cat Mustache had been waiting for did not appear. To the astonishment of the little witch Tremilda, the cat's color changed again, from toothless pumpkin to fire red. She turned another page of the book and read. This time, the little witch tapped her wand very carefully and surely. But the Mustache cat changed color once more: turned olive green with pink stripes. Then, wanting to undo the colors that were already made, she touched her cat with her wand:
– Ato-Ato, Eto-eto! My cat is black again!
And this time, the little witch had a fit. All the colors returned to her poor Mustache cat: the toothless pumpkin, fire red and olive green with pink stripes. She leafed through the book more carefully and read, in a footnote: “Feline magic doesn't work in thunderstorms! Get the milk from the fridge!" The little witch Tremilda fainted. And she just woke up to the licks of the colorful Mustache cat, meowing.
